Children's Yoga
Was set up to make yoga available to children of all ages bringing it into schools, nurseries and children's clubs, promoting, not only yoga, but relaxation too.
Yoga is an ancient practice of posture and breathing exercises that help us to bring balance and harmony into our lives. It helps to keep our body healthy and is useful to help many ailments. It is beneficial to everyone but is exceptionally beneficial for children.
Exercise for children is important but some forms of exercise can be damaging to still developing bone structures. Yoga helps children to gain physical strength and flexibility in a safe way. It helps to bring balance and focus, calm and self esteem. Yoga helps to improve motor skills and develops a sense of body awareness.
In today's society of fast food and fast paced lifestyles we are becoming more aware of a need to reconnect with a healthier way of life. By introducing children to yoga we can encourage them to connect with their bodies, minds, breath and the earth. We can encourage children to look at themselves and their peers in a more positive way, helping them to develop social skills and emotional growth.
This awareness helps them to ease through difficult transitions in there lives as they move into becoming teenagers and their yoga practice can be encouraged to grow with their growing needs.
Relaxation is also an important part of life and many of us including children do not take the time we need to relax properly. Relaxation has been proven to help keep the body's immune system healthy and therefore helps to fight off illness. It is also believed to increase the capacity to learn and memory function.
How
Children learn in many ways and we use simple yoga asanas/poses adapted for specific age groups, combined with games, music and storytelling. We also use simple breath awareness techniques visualizations and relaxation. By allowing the use of the senses and imagination we take children on a journey that is fun but also builds flexibility, calm and self esteem. It introduces children to yoga in a way that is accessible and helps them grow into the world with a little more understanding of themselves and there fellow man.
